Work Package 4
Working with Stakeholders to Support Language Learning
Work Package 4 (WP4) explores how people and organisations create the environment in which language learning takes place. We are interested in the wider systems that influence languages education across the four jurisdictions, including government, schools, local authorities, businesses, careers services, and other organisations.
Our focus is on understanding how different stakeholders view languages, the opportunities they see, and the challenges they encounter in their professional contexts. We explore this through a series of interviews. Some stakeholders work directly in languages education, while others influence language learning through policy, leadership, technology, employment, or wider social and economic priorities.
Research Question
What social, cultural, and structural factors do stakeholders identify as being necessary to create sustainable and healthy cultures of language learning?
Get Involved
We are currently seeking suggestions for interview participants from across the four jurisdictions of Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Ireland.
If you know individuals working in education, government, business, careers, technology, or related fields whose perspectives could contribute to the project, we would be delighted to hear from you.
Knowledge Engagement
WP4 also plays a key role in sharing the findings of the wider project. By bringing together evidence from all work packages through a series of events , we aim to engage decision-makers and support positive change in language learning and teaching.
Phase 2: Knowledge Exchange Events (February–September 2028) During the second phase of the project, we will work with stakeholders to discuss findings and explore practical actions for supporting language learning through a series of events held across Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Ireland.
